Source code is included. Mandelbrot for Windows 1.2 (MBW) Epps, Robert $? allows you to view the Mandelbrot set in one or more windows under Windows 3.0. Scaling and zooming the image are supported, and the drawing parameters of an image can be saved to disk so that the image can be redrawn later. Norner2 Vass, Garry J. $0 is a biomorphic-capable fractal generator. You can select any combination of six trig, three math, and nine powers functions to create a fractal. Key information on each bitmap will be displayed as it is viewed, including the name of bitmap in the resource file, dimension of bitmap (in pixels), number of colors in the bitmap's color palette, and type of bitmap (Windows, OS2, Other). Other features include the ability to change the name of the currently viewed bitmap in the file, and the ability to add/delete bitmaps to a file. Fatbits (FATBITW) Ridges, John $0 is a screen magnification utility. T2S Draw 1.2 (T2SDRAW) Stocksdale, Thomas $15 is a simple object-oriented drawing program for Windows 3.1. The icon-based button interface is easy to use and understand. These icons represent short-cuts for commands (such as open a file, print, etc.) so you don't have to remember what menu a particular function is in or what keyboard shortcut to use. The box is easily hidden when you need it out of your way. Requires WIN31 and VBRUN. Viewer 1.1 Marquette Computer Consultants $0 is an incredibly easy graphic file browser. It allows you to view bitmap, icons, RLE, and Windows Metafile formats by simply clicking on the filename. Supports 16-color display only. VBRUN is required. VMI TrueView (TRUEVIE) Carroll, Jim $0 is a TGA and BMP file viewing utility for users with Vermont Microsystems X/Series 256, Cobra Elite Spectrum, or Design Master VGA graphics cards. WGIF 1.1A Bells and Whistles Software $0 is a GIF87a viewer for Windows 3.1. Windows Graphic View 1.0 (WGV) Bob Jack Software $10 displays, converts, and manipulates both GIF and BMP graphic formats. Images can be enlarged or compressed. A slide show feature is included. WinTIF Lapis Software $15 is a TIF file viewer. It can read TIF 5 Class P files, adjust the size and color of the image, print, or save it in the same format. Graphic Viewer 2.0 (GRVIEWR) C/Systems $8 is a graphic file viewer for Windows BMP, OS/2 BMP, and PCX files. It can display 2-, 16-, and 256-color files and 24-bit files, with appropriate hardware. VBRUN100 is required. PCX2BMP OsoSoft $0 easily converts between PCX and BMP files, in both directions. It can convert just one file, or an entire directory of files at once. Requires VBRUN200. PicView 1.0 Cook, Dale J. $0 is a utility to view ICO, BMP and WMF files. Requires VBRUN200.DLL. Pop Charts! 1.0 (POPCHRT) Toggle Booleans $30 provides an easy way to add professional-looking charts to your Windows documents. It takes any ASCII data you prepare and quickly transforms it into any of several different colorful charts. The chart can then be copied to the clipboard for easy importation into other applications. Chart styles available include simple Bars, 3D Bars, Stacked Circles, Tubes, and Ladders. Other features include grid display options, color schemes, and more. RGBvue 0.9 Gozum, Lawrence & Gozum, Marvin MD $0 is a GIF decoder/viewer. It supports resolutions from black and white to 24-bit color. Other features include auto window resizing/centering, gray scale support, automatic removal of 256-color "hotspots", and more. Requires VBRUN100. WinGIF 1.4 SuperSet Software Corporation $15 is a GIF viewer and GIF-to-BMP converter. It will scale the size of pictures up or down, mirror or flip the image, and dither to VGA 16 colors or to monochrome. The ability to save GIF files in provided, and you can select a different 16-color palette. It will work in both DOS and Windows 3.0. EyeCon 3.0 Higashiyama, Nobuya $0 is a pair of eyes that follows the mouse as it moves around the screen. Eyes 2.1 Eisnaugle, Chris $0 displays a set of eyes on the desktop which follow your cursor around the screen. The eyes also have a number of other small features including winking, blinking, and falling asleep after mouse inactivity. Horse & Yin-Yang (HORSE) Curran, James M. $0 is a pair of rather odd applications. Horse creates a small (1.5") window that shows an animated, galloping horse, even when minimized to an icon. Yin-Yang draws the yin-yang symbol with computer influences and quotes a Kaon from the book "The Zen of Programming." Kaldemo 2b13 Parker, Clinton $10 displays a colorful kaleidoscope on your desktop. It has a screensaver option and continues to work even when minimized. Neko 1.0 Khani, Dara T. $0 opens a window with a cute Japanese kitten named Neko in it. Neko chases the cursor around the screen if it is moving, and he will go to sleep if he detects no cursor movement. The animation of the kitten is very amusing to watch. Small World 0.1 (SMLWRLD) Galassi, Andy $0 displays a spinning world globe as an icon on your desktop. Termite 1.0 Kellner, Hans $0 is a Termite simulation. The multi-colored graphic display resembles a feeding swarm of termites. The swarm grows until it fills the screen. The animated icon included is very interesting. Trash Grey, Jack $? displays a Macintosh-like trash can on your desktop. For maximum satisfaction, make sure a Mac fanatic is around when you double-click on the trash can. Windows Pool 1.0 (WINPOOL) Lutton, Mark $0 is a kaleidoscope type display that produces amazingly intricate images. WinRoach 2.2 (WIN-RCH) New Generation Software $13-$18 scatters animated roaches across your desktop. They scurry about and hide under the active window. When you close the window, the pests are exposed and you can squash them with a click of the left mouse button. Optionally, roaches may wander out of hiding at random intervals. A funny way to liven up your desktop. Xmas Tree (XMASTRE) Vass, Garry J. $0 is a Christmas tree painter for younger children. Source code is included. Yet Another Windows Kaleidoscope (YAWK) Vass, Garry J. $0 displays colorful Swirlies, Twirlies, Curlies, Flugies, and Planets. The latter is the most interesting, with orbiting planets being circled by their moons. It weaves the design on screen from a description you provide. Several sample files are included. VBRUN is required. BartEyes III (BARTEYE) Eccles, Randy $5 puts an icon of Bart Simpson on the desktop with eyes that follow the mouse. It also plays digitized sound clips of Bart and has user-settable screen blanking. Any icon can be used in place of Bart. Coffee Mug 1.0 (COF-MUG) Toggle Booleans $0 displays a steaming cup of coffee on your desktop. If a window happens to bump the cup, it will spill onto the screen and you'll have to upright it from a menu. This falls soundly into our UBF (useless but fun) category. Colours for Windows (COLOURS) Schwartz, Steven A. $10 will produce a dazzling display of color by simply moving the mouse. Young tots will love it, and it is a rather enticing mind blanker for adults, as well. Face*Maker 1.0 (FACEMKR) Page, Alan $0 lets you generate a variety of faces from a library of eyes, noses, mouths, hair, and head shapes. You can add text captions and print out the pictures or copy the bitmapped image to the Clipboard for importing into other programs. This is a lot of fun for both kids and grownups. Ghost 2.0 (GHOSTBM) Myers, Brian $0 is a simple animation that you may want to use as a screen blanker at Halloween. Ghosts rise from a graveyard and float off the top of the display past a full moon and drifting clouds. The cursor turns into a witch on a broomstick and can be used to annoy the ghosts. Icon Movies 1.0 (IMOVIES) Bell, James $0 displays tiny animated movies in an icon. It includes a bouncing ball, two stick figures boxing, and a paper airplane being folded and thrown. Lens 1.03 Konz, Ned $5 is a magnifying glass for Windows. It magnifies the area around the mouse or text cursor from 1 to 20 times. When minimized the icon will reflect the magnified area. PolyAnna 1.1 (POLYANN) Bennett, David $0 produces an interesting animated color display with bouncing polygons. Many options are available to customize the colors and shapes. When minimized, the program's icon is also animated. PolyGone (POLYGO) Mack, Jim $0 is an interesting graphics display that you can adjust to any size. It even continues the show when iconized. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #3886 -------------------------------- ----------------------------- 4140 Startup Screen Utilities Small Programs Disk ----------------------------- LogoGo 1.0 Koster, Dick $0 automatically inserts a new startup screen each time you run Windows. It uses RLE images stored in a ZIP file, extracts a new graphic, and creates a new WIN.COM file. This is a great alternative to Microsoft's rather boring startup screen. NewStart 1.04 (NEWSTRT) Mote Prime BBS $0 lets you change the screen displayed when Windows starts. Several graphics files are included, or you can use your own RLE files. (Paint Shop on disk #3388 can convert GIF and BMP files to RLE format.) Startup (STRTRLE) December Rose Publications $0 is a batch file that creates a new WIN.COM with the RLE graphic of your choice. You will need a graphic utility that can create RLE files (like Paint Shop on disk #3388). This is a really easy process, and detailed instructions and three sample files are included. The following are additional RLE graphics files included on this disk: WinJedi...the Death Star floating in space. WinTrek...the new Starship Enterprise. Computr...a tower computer. HandWin...a hand holding a diskette. StartupScreen 3.2 (SUS) Checkbox Software $0 lets you replace the Microsoft startup screen in Windows with a screen of your own design or choosing. Other features include a BMP file viewer and the ability to install RLE graphic files as Wallpaper. The three scenes included are a winter scene, an indoor Christmas Tree scene, and a manger scene. As you open each window with the mouse, a new item is added to the picture. Requires 600k RAM and a hard disk. ArcDIB 2.12 [ARCDIB] 08-93 CD Better Maps $28 #20248 is a powerful tool for storing and organizing graphical images and multimedia files. You can create catalogs of compressed images, video clips, and sound clips. Files can easily be extracted from these catalogs, saving HUGE amounts of disk space. Support is provided for PCX, BMP, GIF, TIF, WMF, WPG, FAX, DCX, and TARGA images. Other features include image conversion, the ability to record and attach sound files to images, OLE support, thumbnail preview, image manipulation functions, a scrollable note field for each image, and much more. Available on 3.5" 1.44mb MegaDisk and CD ONLY! BMP Clip Art Compiled by Campbell, George $0 #4360 contains one hundred black-and-white clip art files in Windows BMP format. These are mostly rather small images, but are very high quality - good for use with Campbell's "Rockford" program. Files take over 500k unarchived. Cats & Flowers Topf of the Art $5 each #7817/4587 [2 disks] contains five beautiful 16-color BMP files of tigers and leopards one one disk and six BMPs of assorted flowers on the other. People with 256-color VGA cards will love these high-quality pictures. They even look impressive on 16-color systems. Each disk takes about 600k of disk space when unarchived. ChartTamer 2.0 [CTAMR2] 09-93 CD Software Excellence by Design $30 #20250 [2 disks] lets you easily create presentation quality 3-D Bar, Pie, Area, and line charts. You have total control of colors and fill patterns, and you can add any bitmapped image as a background to your chart. A powerful "What If" command lets you change any data point by simply clicking on it. Other features include the ability to import ASCII data files, clipboard support, and much more. Requires VBRUN200. ClpMap 1.0 Mayfield, W.W. $25 #20207 [3 disks] is a world map plotting program. It can produce two different cylindrical projections and a 3-D satellite view. Colors, line widths, and resolutions are all user-selectable. Zoom capabilities allow you to customize a map to any particular Earth view. After a map has been plotted, it can easily be copied to the clipboard for importation into other applications. A hard disk is required, and a 386 with 2 meg RAM is recommended. CodeReader 1.0 [CODERDR] 08-93 CD EcheSoft $45 #12399 is an Optical Character Recognition program. It works with bitmaps produced using low cost hand-held scanners and is intended to provide a cheap and effective method of data entry for computer programmers. Requires 2MB RAM. Ikonize 1.20 King, Andrew $10 #12167 is a DOS application which allows you to capture a graphic and save it as a Windows icon or use it as wallpaper. Images can be scaled up or down to icon size or a size which will fit an exact number of copies onto your wallpaper. Original colors can be saved or converted to 16 colors. Kidpix R. K. West Consulting ASP $0 #2836 is a collection of children's drawings in 16-color BMP format as well as in PCX format. The Mandelbrot Set 3.0 [MAND30] 08-93 CD Cerious Software $25 #12409 is an incredible fractal image generator. You can easily zoom in on an interesting section, change the color palette, and save the image to disk. You can even animate the images by cycling the colors for a spectacular effect. 256-color VGA is recommended. Terminator New World Software $0 #3691 is a useless but fun application that puts a picture of everyone's favorite cyborg in a window. Pressing the "I'll Be Back" button causes the terminator to say just that. The picture then vanishes for a user-specified interval, only to relentlessly return again and again. (This disk includes Aaron Wallace's SOUNDER program, which requires a $2 registration fee.) WinFract Stone Soup Group $0 #7626/2837 [2 disks] generates complex fractal images. Features include selectable, scrollable image sizes to 2048x2048x256, on-line help, zooming, file save and restore, print, biomorphs, decomposition, and color-cycling. L-Systems fractal types are supported, and fractals can be copied to the clipboard. When running iconized, the icon is replaced by an iconized version of the current fractal image. Complete source code is included, and a hard disk is required. Wallpaper Disks: --------------- PsL has the following MegaDisk Sets of mostly photographic quality Wallpaper files in 640x480 resolution, 256 colors. (Obviously, your video card must support the 640x480x256 mode.) Each set comes on four 360k disks or one 1.44 meg for $6.99. The Glamour disks, in the context of artistic photography, contain partial female nudity -- a little more risque than National Geographic, a little less so than Playboy. Other features include full text font support, scaled plots, on-line help, element snaps, zoom/pan options, and much more. ColorView for Windows 0.97 Millennium Technologies Corp. ASP $30 #4504 is a color image viewer for JPEG, GIF'87, GIF'89, and Windows BMP graphic files. Features include Floyd-Steinberg dithering, Heckbert color reduction, one-pass Fast Quantization color reduction, Gamma correction, up to 24-bit color display support, and much more. A 286 or better and 2MB+ RAM req. Graphic Workshop for Windows 1.1e Alchemy Mindworks Inc. $40 #20108 [2 disks] lets you view, print, dither, flip, rotate, reverse, crop, convert, and perform special effects on virtually all bitmapped image files. It supports MacPaint, GEM/IMG, PCX, GIF, TIFF, WPG, MSP, IFF/LBM, PIC, RLE, TGA, Halo CUT, as well as self-displaying .EXE and .TXT files. It automatically dithers 256-color and 24-bit images for viewing on 16 color displays. Other features include a screen capture application, Kodak PhotoCD support, thumbnail previews, and much more. This is a very powerful and easy to use utility. Several sample image files are included. A hard disk is recommended. Metafiler for Windows 1.0 Six, Raymond W. $0 #12321 lets you transfer Windows MetaFiles (WMF) to and from the Clipboard and disk storage. This allows Word for Windows users to save documents to disk as WMF files instead of having to encapsulate their work in a Word DOC file. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. Paint Shop Pro 1.02 JASC, Inc. ASP $53 #3388 will display, convert, alter and print pictures using the file formats of TIFF, GIF, WPG(*), BMP, PCX, MAC, IMG, PIC, and RLE. When saving a picture as a BMP with RLE encoding, it can determine which encoding (RLE4 or RLE8) to use. The doc file contains interesting information about 256-color graphics in Windows. A screen capture function is also provided. (*) Only WPG files with the bitmapped saved in the file can be converted. Paperman Plus Eagle Software $24 #20198 automatically changes your wallpaper every time you start Windows. Several 256-color graphic files are included. Other features include slide-show capabilities and screen saver functions. Requires WIN31, a 286 or better, and VGA. Available on 3.5" 1.44mb MegaDisk ONLY! PixFolio 2.0.83 [PIXFOLIO] 09-93 CD ACK Software ASP $39 #27615 allows you to view and catalog graphic files. Formats supported include GIF, PCX, TIF, TGA, IFF, BMP, RLE, EPS, IMG, ICO, and CLP. Support is also priovided for Autodesk Animator FLI and FLC files, WordPerfect Graphics, Micrografx DRW/GRF, Macintosh MacPaint files, and Windows Metafile format. Multiple catalogs can be maintained, even if the files reside on different disks. You can save a primary and backup copy of an image concurrently. The enhanced search capabilities include displaying of postage stamp sized images in a matrix. Basic image manipulation functions such as brightness, contrast, cut and paste, dithering, and rotation are also available. It can automatically dither an image for display if it's color resolution is greater than your video card's. Support is also included for users of Bernoulli boxes or other high-capacity removable media. A Slide Show mode is also provided. A hard disk is required. Available on 3.5" 1.44mb MegaDisk and CD only. StartupSwapper Deluxe 2.01 [SWAPPER] 09-93 CD Checkbox Software $30 #12096 displays a different startup screen each time you start Windows. It randomly selects a new RLE file from a specified directory. Installation is very easy, and several sample graphic files are included. Requires WIN31 and VGA. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. WinClip 3.0 Campbell, George $20 #12149 allows you to view, catalog and print your collection of BMP and PCX graphic files. It also ties in with Paintbrush or other graphics program for editing selected graphics. Other features include support for all graphics-capable printers, file management tools, and CD-ROM support. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. XVT-Draw Rochkind, Marc J. $0 #3975 is an object-oriented drawing program. It is completely menu-driven, with on-line help for every function. ------------------------ 3280 Wallpaper Utilities Small Programs Disk ------------------------ Backlines (BACKLIN) $0 creates a bouncing-line graphics display in the background on your desktop, for use in place of Wallpaper. Drawbacks are that the line color is not adjustable and you have to restart to get rid of it. Change Paper (CHPAPER) Ford, Nelson ASP $0 lets you manually change paper or set a timer for automatic cycling through all the wallpaper file in a directory. This is the only wallpaper changer (of which we are aware) which resets the Windows palette after loading a new 256-color wallpaper. VBRUN required. Flags of the CSA (FLAGCSA) Chumbley, James F. $0 contains 256-color bitmapped images of the flags of the Confederacy. Historical information on these flags is also included. Fractal Wallpaper (FRACWP) Vass, Garry J. $0 is a beautiful 640x480x32 BMP file of a biomorphic fractal. Fuse $0 is animated wallpaper: a bitmapped picture of a smiling female that moves around in the background. Paperback Writer 1.1 (PBW) 64 Bit Computer Consulting, Inc. $? allows you to pick any available bitmap to be used as wallpaper the next time Windows starts up. If nothing is picked within 10 seconds, a bitmap is picked at random and your WIN.INI is modified. WallBlaster 1.2 (WALLBLS) WrightWorks $0 changes the desktop wallpaper from a library of up to six images contained in a ZIP archive (#1705 PKZip required). It selects files at random either at a timed interval or on demand. This really lets you get the most enjoyment from your Wallpaper files. Wallpaper (WALPAPR) Kather, Todd $0 lets you keep BMP files compressed into a ZIP file and still use them. The program extracts a selected BMP file and updates the Windows desktop to use it as wallpaper. PKZIP (on disk #1705) is required. This is a very well done little utility that allows you to salvage a lot of hard disk space eaten up by large BMP files. It can also print customized icon catalogs with a single poster-sized icon to hundreds of icons per page.
